Can I use my GPS equipment with your chart?Certainly! As anyone who uses this revolutionary system can tell you, there are many kinds of GPS equipment and several good approaches to employing it. One of the most effective is to compile your own list of waypoints, using your own unit, and then mark them on your chart. Even though Duncan Press 2005 and earlier charts are designed with GPS in mind, one cautionary comment must be made here. We do know of boaters unfamiliar with the big lake who have found themselves unexpectedly in hazardous waters or even damaged their boats while trying to use GPS. These boaters were focusing on their equipment instead of watching where they were going! A compass, a watch, a good chart, and an alert eye are all you really need to get around safely. GPS is fun, and a great tool for mapmakers and surveyors, but it's certainly no substitute for keeping your eyes on the lake. |
