Why do you show depth contours on your charts?
Chiefly for people who like to fish and dive. Our charts show at a glance the deep, cold holes and the shallow sandy places in the Lake bottom, along with the kinds of fish generally found there. Divers use the contours to help them locate submerged wrecks. Also, our users report that the depth contours make the chart more interesting to look at! In 1997 an independent survey was done on this issue with many of our long-time users. All of them, including individuals from the Marine Patrol and the Fish and Game Department, were in favor of continuing to show the bathymetric contours on our charts.
Boaters in unfamiliar waters should stay on the navigation courses marked on the Duncan Press chart.
